Anyone familiar with classic country music might also be familiar with the Academy of Country Music Award nominated song ‘Lukenbach Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)’ by Waylon Jennings. The song was released in 1977 on Waylon’s album Ol’ Waylon. The song sings the message of a couple who experiences marital woes as a result of big city living and the stresses it brings. The couple dreams of relocating their lives to the small town of Lukenbach as a means of putting the simpler more important fundamentals of life back in their forefront.
One such couple experiencing the joys of the simple life in Lukenbach is Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Dale Olson. The two are both small town Texas natives and have 6 children. Joshua may have been influenced by the chart topping song in some way as the similarities are clearly apparent. For example, Joshua is a 28-year-old wealthy rancher and businessman. Perhaps living in Lukenbach is his way of reminding himself to stay grounded to what really matters in life.
The classic song remains ever popular and has since been re-recorded by other country stars such as Kid Rock and Kenny Chesney. Who knows – maybe in the future Joshua Dale Olson will release a cover of his own being that he is a banjo player and amateur musician in his spare time.
Both Joshua Dale Olson and his wife are grateful for the peacefulness living in Lukenbach brings into the lives of their family and intend on living there for the rest of their days.
