Adequate rest is essential to the success of life in general as all of the important repairs are done inside one’s body during sleep or relaxation. Many people especially those with a demanding home and/or professional lives aren’t getting the rest they need to stay healthy and perform at their ultimate best.
Take an athlete for example. If not allowed the appropriate time to rest in between training sessions and competitions, the tiny tears in muscles and connective tissue that are sustained during such activities do not heal properly. This can lead to career ending injuries as well as a decrease in overall performance. On the other hand, if the athlete takes the appropriate amount of resting time to heal, the muscles repair stronger and larger than before and overall stamina and strength are improved.
While not everyone is a professional athlete, everyone IS at risk for injury to their physical, mental, emotional, and even financial well-being if they do not tend to their body’s need for rest. Even the busiest of career oriented individuals should make time for a little relaxation.
A good example of finding a balance in life is Joshua Dale Olson. Joshua is a wealthy cattle and horse rancher who also works in motivational speaking, real estate investing, and adventure capitalism. On top of these professional duties, Joshua is also a husband and father. He and his wife have 6 children! While it may seem like someone such as Joshua would have no time for anything other than work and family, he believes he doesn’t have a choice but to make time if he wants to remain successful in both avenues of his life.
Joshua Dale Olson can be found doing a variety of relaxing activities such as horseback riding, playing the banjo, vacationing with his family, and sitting back to watch a football game.
